Explore Southern Arizona Family RV Vacation and Stay at one Campground
Updated: Mar 12

Welcome back friends, or if you are new here, I am so happy you are here. So why go to Benson Arizona? Let’s cut to the chase, my family and I stayed at the Benson KOA in Benson Arizona for a few weeks to explore quite a few small but unique towns. Benson is located in southern Arizona about 45 minutes east of Tucson AZ. This place is perfect for someone who wants to explore many different places in the southern parts of Arizona. Day trips all the way!
I will be reviewing this campground and hopefully help you gain more information before your stay. I know it is a little unnerving picking out a campground when you don’t know the area or the campground very well. I do a lot of research before I reserve a spot. Since my family and I are full time RV’ers sometimes we are able to drive near a campground we are thinking of staying at if we are jumping from city to city in one state. We did this a lot in Arizona since we spent 4 months here. I know you might not be able to do that, so this is why I am reviewing all the campgrounds we have stayed at. I hope to share information about its location, amenities, safety, cleanliness, cost, length of stay, ease of access this campground provides. Always read Google reviews and look up their website too. I hope you enjoy, as always travel long, travel happy!

Benson KOA is a very friendly place to stay, it was very accommodating even when it is under construction. We stayed in February 2021; the weather was perfect just a little chilly at night. If you know KOA’s they are a little pricier than local campgrounds, but we like them for its amenities and consistency all around the US. During the week, the campground is rather quiet, but weekends it does get packed full. Plan ahead, and if you can go during the week if you want to beat the crowd. We had a pull through site like most of the sites available. There are a few back in sites too.
The juicy amenities this campground provides are 50-amp max, 70’ length sites, so they are ready for big rigs to come in. Wi-fi, mini golf, propane available on site, pets welcome, laundry, picnic table, full hook ups including sewer hookups and a dump station. Call the office for up-to-date amenities such as the showers, pool, office building, store during construction, some may not be open just yet. Of course, there are more amenities listed on their website here.

The ease of access of going in and out of the campground is rather easy. For us we had about 60’ in total with our travel trailer hooked up to the truck, we were able to access the entry and exit smoothly. No low hanging tree branches or anything in the way. Our site had plenty of room for our 37’ travel trailer and space to park the truck next to it. Speaking of the site specifically, it cost us about $49/night, but if you have the KOA perks rewards you can easily get some more discounts. Like many KOA’s you are welcome to stay 1 night up to months on end, they are accommodating and may have monthly rates, call and ask or check their website.
Before I get to what we did on our stay here, I want to point out this campground was very safe while we were here. The campground is 10 minutes off the major highway with a pretty easy drive. It was very clean even during construction.

So, we were able to go explore Bisbee a ghost town, take a tour around town in a golf cart and hear crazy stories about ghosts! We also went to Tombstone and walked through time into the O.K. Corral downtown and Silver mine. Cowboys all around you brings great entertainment and food all around town.
We also hiked up the Coronado National Overlook trail and drooled over the sights of the Mexico border, and explored a natural cave no man has touched. There are plenty of things to do in and around the Benson KOA campground that you and your family can explore. I let my kids bring their own camera to take pictures of all the things we saw and got to see their perspective as well.

I want to rate this campground an 8/10 for its comfort of staying in one place with everything we needed in the city. Also, able to go out and explore many different towns and surrounding areas with beautiful driving views. Explore the southern part of Arizona and come stay at the Benson KOA for a great family adventure.
